before smartphones, my friend and i would debate whether bringing a camera to a party would make it impossible to be in the moment. how can you live in a moment while you're recording it? i've come to realize that filming a moment is a totally valid way of living in the moment. the camera is just a piece of glass and machinery - it's a prop, like a bottle in your hand, or a cigarette you offer to a stranger. whether you hide behind it, or reach out with it, is up to you.
here's some of what i caught back in the day. naturally, there are so many moments that weren't recorded. but i'm glad i brought a camera to these places, with these faces, during these times.
